You might notice in this expanded view that some holes of the socket footprint are oval. This is because this socket footprint can accept various sockets, namely 84-pin , 68-pin and 52-pin PLCC sockets. Where the solder-tail pins of different sockets would be too close to have individual round holes, an oval shaped plated through hole was used to accomodate either socket.
